Working with the children and staff in a range of ways during the start of 2021...
In 2021 I have been learning new ways to connect with children and staff.
I have:
- Created a YouTube channel (private) for a Scottish Forestry Project, allowing people to learn. practical outdoor skills remotely. This project looked to add specialist units for those staff who have completed their Forest Kindergarten training although we got participants from all walks of life. The specialist units I delivered where ‘Tarp Shelters’ and ‘Swings and Things’. If you feel you or others would benefit from watching the recorded version of these courses or simply want to learn now to tie a hitch, lash, knot, put up a hammock, shelter or ladder click on this link https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8wFHik3oUkQqiyzXX1GiI0GoTqgDGm7T
- I have delivered online lessons to P4 children through Teams. Whereby we under took Benefit Risk Assessments of our house (one room or several) and our garden or an outdoor space. We also learned to tie our shoe laces the way they don’t come undone https://www.ted.com/talks/terry_moore_how_to_tie_your_shoes?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshare and then also added a few useful hitches to and knots to use in their day to day lives. The posts of work were fantastic.
-Then, at last, back in school. First, with the hub to make pancakes on pancake day, then with P1-3 and now back working with the whole school a class/day at a time outside. So far, P1 explored water on a very wet day and we just about made some toasties & art charcoal on the fire for their art lesson the next day. P2/3 have been exploring tools and making their own paint. P3 have been drovers: making tripod shelters, weaving, making ember bowls and Porridge using fire. P6 explored how we communicate for a day (through facial expression, mime, tracking signs, morse code and then home made telephones!) Next week we are exploring WW1 with P7- health & medics, food & water plus communication systems.
